First Reading - Acts 4:8-12
Second Reading - 1 John 3:1-2
Gospel - John 10:11-18
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear Peter boldly proclaiming the name of Jesus before the religious leaders. He speaks with confidence, declaring that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ. Peter's courage and conviction remind us that as disciples of Christ, we are called to bear witness to His name in all circumstances. Just as Peter relied on the Holy Spirit for strength and guidance, so too are we called to open our hearts to the promptings of the Spirit and proclaim the Gospel fearlessly.
In the second reading from the First Letter of John, we are reminded of the great love that God has lavished upon us by calling us His children. John speaks of the incomparable love of the Father, who has adopted us into His family through Jesus Christ. As beloved children of God, we are called to embrace our identity and live as heirs to His kingdom. This assurance of God's love empowers us to live with confidence and hope, knowing that we are cherished and valued beyond measure.
Finally, in the Gospel passage from John, Jesus presents Himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep. He speaks of the intimate relationship between the shepherd and his flock, emphasizing His deep love and care for each of His followers. Jesus' willingness to sacrifice Himself for our sake is a powerful testament to His love and commitment to us. As our Good Shepherd, He leads us on the path of righteousness, guiding and protecting us through life's challenges.
Dear friends, the readings today remind us of the centrality of Jesus Christ in our lives and the profound love that God has for each of us as His children. Just as Peter boldly proclaimed the name of Jesus, and John emphasized our identity as beloved children of God, so too are we called to embrace our faith in Jesus Christ and live as His beloved disciples.
As we reflect on the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep, let us be inspired to entrust ourselves fully to His loving care. Let us allow His grace to guide us on our journey of faith, knowing that He is always with us, leading us to eternal life.
Let's embrace your identity as a beloved child of God, follow Jesus Christ as your Good Shepherd, and trust in His love and guidance in every aspect of your life. Let us draw strength from His name, live out our faith boldly, and bear witness to His love and mercy in the world around us. By doing so, we will experience the fullness of life that comes from knowing and following Jesus Christ, both now and for all eternity. Amen.
