First Reading - Isaiah 26:1-6

Gospel - Matthew 7:21,24-27

Each one of us desires a secure and unshakable foundation in life, something that will hold firm amidst the storms and challenges we face. Today’s readings point us to the ultimate source of such security: a life built on faith in God and obedience to His will.

The first reading from Isaiah presents a vision of a strong and fortified city whose walls and ramparts are salvation. The righteous and faithful are invited to enter this city and experience peace. This is not merely a physical city but a metaphor for the security and strength that come from trusting in God. The prophet emphasizes humility as the key to entering this city, for God lifts up the lowly and brings down the proud. It is a reminder that true strength is found not in human achievement but in surrendering to God and walking in His ways.

In the Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the wise and foolish builders to teach a profound truth about life. The wise builder constructs his house on solid rock, ensuring it can withstand the storms and floods. In contrast, the foolish builder chooses the easy option, building on sand, and his house collapses under pressure. The rock represents the firm foundation of hearing and acting on God’s Word, while the sand symbolizes a life built on superficial or fleeting priorities.

Jesus makes it clear that it is not enough to merely call Him “Lord” or to profess faith with our words. True discipleship demands action—living out the teachings of Christ in our daily lives. A life built on His Word is like the house on the rock: it may face storms, but it will not fall.

Dear friends, these readings challenge us to examine the foundations of our lives. Are we building on the solid rock of God’s Word, or are we relying on the shifting sands of worldly success, material wealth, or fleeting pleasures? The storms of life—be they trials, temptations, or uncertainties—will inevitably come. Only a life rooted in faith and obedience to God will endure.

Let us take this invitation seriously. The secure city Isaiah describes is open to all who trust in the Lord and live righteously. The solid foundation Jesus speaks of is available to all who hear His Word and put it into practice. It is never too late to start building on the rock. Let us renew our commitment to live as faithful disciples, seeking God’s will in all we do.

May we find strength and security in God’s Word, and may our lives become testimonies of His unshakable love and grace. Amen.
