First Reading - 1 Timothy 4:12-16

Gospel - Luke 7:36-50

One of the greatest gifts of our faith is that God looks not at outward appearances but at the heart. Today’s readings highlight two essential truths: the call to live as examples of faith, and the immeasurable mercy of Christ who sees beyond our sins to the love within us.

In the first reading, Paul encourages Timothy not to let his youth discourage him, but instead to be an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. The mission of a disciple is not limited by age, status, or background. What matters is allowing the Word of God to shape our lives so that others may encounter Christ through us. We are called to let our faith shine in how we speak, act, and love, becoming living witnesses of the Gospel.

The Gospel brings us into a powerful moment of mercy. A woman, known as a sinner, enters the house of Simon the Pharisee and, with tears of repentance, bathes the feet of Jesus, wipes them with her hair, and anoints them with costly ointment. While Simon judges her, Jesus sees her heart. He does not measure her by her past sins but by her great love. “Her many sins have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love.” This moment reveals the heart of God: mercy greater than sin, love greater than judgment.

Dear friends, we are called both to witness by our lives and to trust in God’s boundless mercy. None of us is too young, too weak, or too broken to be instruments of Christ’s love. What matters is a heart open to Him — a heart that lives in faith and responds with love.

Let us then ask ourselves: Do I let my life be an example of Christ’s love to others? Do I believe in the depth of His mercy, even in my moments of weakness?

May we live with courage, like Timothy, as examples of faith, and with humility, like the forgiven woman, trusting fully in the mercy of Christ who sees our hearts and welcomes us with love.
