First Reading - Acts 13:26-33

Gospel - John 14:1-6

Discouragement and disappointment are feelings common to us all. Whether from failure, unmet expectations, or uncertainty, we often find ourselves struggling to remain hopeful. Today’s readings offer us encouragement and a path forward: to trust deeply in God and his promises.

In the Gospel, Jesus comforts his disciples as he prepares them for the pain and confusion that will come with his passion and death. Sensing their fear and discouragement, he exhorts them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me.” Jesus assures them that his going is not abandonment but preparation—for a “place” in his Father’s house. This “place” is not a literal location, but a symbolic reference to heaven, the eternal communion with God.

Jesus further clarifies his identity to his disciples: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

– As the Way, he guides us through his teachings and example.

– As the Truth, he reveals the fullness of God’s plan, because he comes from the Father.

– As the Life, he offers us eternal life, which begins even now as we abide in him.

In the first reading, Paul echoes this assurance by proclaiming Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promises. He contrasts those of old who awaited God’s promises with the current generation who have seen them fulfilled in Christ, especially in the resurrection. Paul’s message is an invitation: to open one’s eyes to God’s faithfulness and respond with faith.

Dear friends, our faith is nothing less than a visible expression of our trust in the promises of Christ. As Paul reminds us, God always fulfills what he has promised. And as Jesus reassures us in the Gospel, we are not alone. We are being led, step by step, by the one who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The readings urge us to resist the temptation to despair when life becomes difficult. Discouragement can weaken our resolve and shake our focus. But trust in God gives us hope, and hope fills our hearts with strength and peace—even in the darkest moments.

Let us pray for a faith that does not waver, and a trust that holds firm in every season of life. May our hope in Christ be the anchor of our souls.
