First Reading - Colossians 1:1-8

Gospel - Luke 4:38-44

Today’s readings remind us that the Gospel is not just a message we hear but a living power that transforms lives and spreads like a flame wherever it is welcomed.

In the first reading, Paul writes to the Colossians with joy, giving thanks for their faith in Christ and their love for one another. He reminds them that the Gospel they received is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world. This shows us something essential: the Good News is not stagnant; it is alive, and when embraced with faith, it produces visible change—hope, love, and perseverance.

In the Gospel, we see the same power of the Gospel made visible in the person of Jesus. He enters Simon’s house, heals his mother-in-law, and she immediately rises to serve. Then crowds gather, bringing the sick and those tormented by demons, and Jesus heals them all. His presence brings freedom, restoration, and peace. Yet, even with so many demands, Jesus withdraws to pray. He reminds us that His mission flows from communion with the Father, and that His purpose is not to remain in one place but to proclaim the Kingdom everywhere.

Dear friends, the Gospel is meant to be alive in us and to spread through us. Like the Colossians, we are called to let it bear fruit in faith and love. Like Simon’s mother-in-law, we are healed so that we may rise and serve. And like Jesus, we must keep our hearts rooted in prayer so that our service flows not from our own strength, but from God’s Spirit.

Let us then ask ourselves: Is the Gospel bearing fruit in my life? Do others see in me the hope, love, and joy that come from Christ? Am I willing, like Jesus, to move beyond comfort and convenience so that God’s Kingdom may reach others?

May the Lord who healed, who prayed, and who proclaimed give us the same Spirit, so that our lives may be instruments of His living Gospel in the world.
