💖 HOMILY - NOVEMBER 14 💖

First Reading - Wisdom 13:1-9

Gospel - Luke 17:26-37

We live in a world that constantly seeks proof — proof of success, proof of love, even proof of God. Yet, the more humanity discovers, the more we sometimes forget to see the Creator behind creation. Today’s readings remind us that faith is not about endless searching for signs but about recognizing the divine presence already revealed in the world around us. The theme that shines through is simple yet profound: seeing God in what He has made, before it’s too late to respond in faith.

The first reading from the Book of Wisdom speaks about people who admire the beauty and power of creation — the sun, the moon, the stars — but fail to look beyond them to the One who made them. Their mistake was not in loving creation, but in stopping there. They saw the brilliance of the universe but missed the Source of its light. True wisdom calls us to see God through creation, not apart from it — to let the beauty of the world lead us to the Creator’s love, not replace it. Every sunrise, every breath, every act of kindness points to a God who sustains life with purpose and grace.

In the Gospel, Jesus recalls the days of Noah and Lot — times when people were busy with their ordinary routines: eating, drinking, building, marrying. None of these things were bad in themselves, but the people lived without awareness of God’s presence or the need for conversion. They were so absorbed in the world that they failed to see the signs of God’s call right before them. Jesus warns that when the Son of Man comes, it will be sudden, and only those whose hearts are awake to God’s presence will be ready. The message is clear: faith is not something to postpone until tomorrow — it is a way of seeing and living today.

Dear friends, do we take time to recognize God’s hand in our work, our relationships, and the beauty of creation? Or have we, like the people in the Gospel, become so caught up in routine that we forget the greater reality around us? Faith is not about adding something more to our schedule; it’s about transforming how we see what’s already there — learning to find God in the ordinary moments that fill our days.

God reveals Himself constantly: in the wonder of creation, in the goodness of others, and above all, in the face of Christ. The wise heart sees these signs and responds with gratitude, humility, and love. The foolish heart ignores them, waiting for something bigger while missing the divine in the small.

Today, we are invited to open our eyes anew — to see God’s glory in creation, His mercy in our daily blessings, and His presence in every person we meet. Let us not wait for extraordinary signs to believe. Instead, may we learn to recognize the extraordinary God who reveals Himself in the ordinary, and live each day with hearts ready to meet Him, both now and forever.
