First Reading - Genesis 44:18-21,23-29,45:1-5

Gospel - Matthew 10:7-15

The journey of reconciliation and the urgency of the mission are the two central themes that emerge from today’s readings. We see how God's providence brings healing from betrayal, and how Jesus commissions His disciples to carry the message of that healing and peace to others.

In the first reading from Genesis, we encounter the powerful moment of Joseph revealing his identity to his brothers. These are the same brothers who had sold him into slavery out of jealousy. Joseph now stands before them not with resentment, but with mercy and compassion. His words are striking: “It was not you who sent me here, but God.” Joseph recognizes God's hand even in the evil done to him. His story reminds us that divine providence can bring about healing even in the most painful relationships, and that reconciliation is always possible when hearts are open to grace.

The Gospel continues this theme of grace and mission. Jesus sends out the apostles with a clear and urgent message: “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” They are to bring peace, heal the sick, and proclaim the nearness of God's reign. But Jesus also instructs them to rely completely on God, not on material security. If their message is not received, they are to move on, but the urgency of their mission remains—the world must know that God’s kingdom is breaking into history.

Dear friends, the story of Joseph teaches us to see our past, even our wounds, through the lens of God’s providence. Instead of bitterness, Joseph chose mercy. In our families, communities, and relationships, we are often called to be agents of reconciliation. Like Joseph, we can become instruments of peace when we surrender our hurts to God and allow Him to work through us.

At the same time, like the apostles, we are also sent out to share this message of God’s love and nearness. Whether in word or deed, we are called to be bearers of hope and peace to a world longing for healing.

May we, like Joseph, be people of forgiveness and trust in God’s plan, and like the apostles, go out with courage and simplicity to proclaim the good news that God's kingdom is near.
