First Reading - 1 Timothy 1:15-17

Gospel - Luke 6:43-49

Every lasting structure needs a firm foundation. Without it, no matter how beautiful or impressive it looks, it cannot endure. Today’s readings remind us that our lives, too, must be built on something solid — and that solid ground is none other than Christ’s mercy and His word.
In the first reading, Paul makes a profound confession: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the foremost.” Yet, he recognizes that in his weakness, God’s mercy has overflowed, making his life a witness to the transforming power of Christ. Paul’s testimony reminds us that our foundation is not our achievements, nor our strength, but the unfailing mercy of God. His grace is the bedrock that holds us firm even when we stumble.
The Gospel carries this truth into the image of building a house. Jesus contrasts two builders: one who digs deep and lays a foundation on rock, and one who builds without any foundation. The storms of life will come to both, but only the house built on rock will stand. This rock is Christ Himself, and building on Him means not only hearing His word but living it. Faith that remains only in words or intentions is fragile. True discipleship demands action, obedience, and perseverance.
Dear friends, to build our lives on Christ is to let His mercy transform us and His word guide us. With such a foundation, no storm — whether of suffering, temptation, or doubt — can topple us.
Let us ask ourselves: What foundation am I building my life upon? Is it success, wealth, or recognition — or is it the mercy and word of Christ? May we, like Paul, never lose sight of God’s mercy, and may we, like wise builders, root our lives firmly in Christ, so that we may stand strong and bear witness to His love in every circumstance.
