First Reading - Acts 16:1-10
Gospel - John 15:18-21
In the first reading, we witness how the Holy Spirit actively directs the early Church in its mission. Paul and his companions do not act on personal initiative alone; rather, they follow the prompting of the Spirit, who shows them where to go and what to do. The Spirit is the unseen but decisive force behind all fruitful evangelization. This reminds us that our work for God must always be in tune with His Spirit, not merely our plans.
In the Gospel, Jesus warns his disciples of the opposition they will face. The world—understood here as a system that resists God and exalts self-interest, pride, and relativism—will hate them because they belong to Christ. Just as Jesus was rejected, so too will his followers face rejection. But this hatred is not a sign of failure; rather, it is often a sign of fidelity. The Gospel disturbs the conscience of a world that prefers darkness to light. In today’s climate, the Church continues to be mocked, opposed, and misunderstood for standing by truth, love, and moral clarity.
Dear friends, the readings assure us that we are not alone in this struggle. The Holy Spirit is still with the Church, with each of us, guiding and strengthening us to live the Gospel faithfully. We are called to be courageous witnesses—not bitter or defensive, but joyful and steadfast. Living and proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ will bring challenges, but also deep peace and lasting joy.
Let us therefore pray for the grace to remain strong in our Christian convictions. May the Spirit of God dwell in us richly and help us to bear witness to Christ—not only in words, but by the integrity of our lives.
