First Reading - Colossians 3:1-11
Gospel - Luke 6:20-26
In the first reading, Paul urges the Colossians to set their hearts on what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. He calls us to put to death the attitudes and behaviors that belong to our old self—anger, greed, envy, and dishonesty—and to embrace the new life given to us in Christ: compassion, kindness, humility, and love. Our identity is no longer defined by the world’s measure of success but by our union with Christ.
The Gospel presents the Beatitudes and their counterpoints. Jesus blesses the poor, the hungry, and those who weep, promising them comfort and fulfillment. He also warns of woes for the rich, the satisfied, and the self-sufficient, reminding us that worldly wealth, comfort, and recognition can blind us to the true riches of God’s Kingdom. The message is clear: blessedness is not found in possessions, status, or human approval, but in living in humble dependence on God and in loving service to others.
Dear friends, the readings challenge us to live intentionally, to lift our eyes from temporary comforts and focus on the eternal. True happiness comes not from accumulation or self-interest but from living a life rooted in Christ, guided by His values, and directed toward His Kingdom.
Let us ask ourselves: Where is my heart dwelling? Am I chasing the fleeting promises of this world, or am I seeking the eternal treasures of God? May we embrace the new life Christ offers, living in love, humility, and faithful service, so that our lives may be a reflection of the blessedness He promises.
